One point that hasn't been brought up, in terms of our current society and crime is...say the mantra with me here...the war on drugs. I see that as being the issue. Not the number of weapons, type of gun, or ease of legal access. Guns will not go away, ever. It isn't the weapons. We have more people in our prisons, HERE, than in any other nation in the world. Free or not so free, no other country in the world puts as great a percentage of it's population in jail than ours does. That isn't caused by weapons. It's caused by the drug war. And you better believe there are wealthy men in nice office buildings who don't want the drug war to EVER end. Huge profits, prison industry, captive labor...and racism too. Just my perspective. Were I to work with gunshot victims, I probably wouldn't like guns so much either, though I don't like them generally. They're a tool I choose to have around. It reminds me of prohibition. At first, women were the group that pushed for prohibition. And, women were the ones that put a stop to it, when it turned into the ugly mobsters in the streets way of life. We just haven't put a stop to it yet. I really don't dislike guns. I just think we are a society of excess. It's not enough to kill something 30x's over....we are the most effeicient killers in the world. The muslim fundamentalists may have shock value over us.....Beheadings ARE gruesome but we can kill hundreds in the same amt of time with very little effort. I just wish I could see some of the passion used to justify automatic assault weapons used to fight discrimination and poverty in this country. Whatever I agree with you about the war on drugs. Mostly it is the hypocracy that gets me. We have our prisons and courtrooms tied up with petty drug crimes yet the REAL criminals like Ken Lay, Cheney and those Hallibuton bastards are running our country.

And people will thank you for being there, even if they never say it, or even realize it It's funny though, cuz so many of my pts don't even know I'm there. So many are sedated through most of their ICU stay. The families know us but the person you've cared for for weeks will wake up and not have any idea who you are. They don't realize how hard you worked to keep em alive. Their families will tell them that you've been their nurse for weeks and they just give you a blank stare. I mean for some of them, the last thing thay may remember was driving home from work one night and they wake up 2 weeks later in the ICU. It can be kinda shocking.

I think so, anyway I think you give some of your spirit to every one. Am I a sap or what? It's worth something though, when a person is hurt badly, to have someone there pulling for them, trying to get them through it. It has to be
