Today, after dropping HotJan at work, I stopped at 7-11 to grab a soda. I left Connor in his car seat, in the shade, with the windows open. At no time was he out of my line of sight, and if someone had tried to snatch him, I'd have been out there in asecond, slamming their head in my car door and screaming, "Where's Bill!?!?![/b]"
I noticed a woman looking in the window of the car and talking to him. I kept an eye on her, but she didn't appear a danger. When I got out there, she gave me a lecture on never leaving him in the car, and said I was bad.
Now, to me, I took all the proper precautions for a two minute trip into the all glass store. I would never leave him in the car if I couldn't see him or if he was exposed to excessive heat or something.
Am I completely wrong here??

BUT...I used to yell at him for a lot of things, and I'm just ridiculously overprotective. And prsonally, I think you're a fine parent, in fact, both of you are great Now this gal, I don't know what she said or how she said it. Myself in her place, I would have been concerned too, just because I would have seen a baby without a parent right there. We're just too dangerous a species, but that's my own prejudice. What I would have likely done is kept an eye on him myself, to see what happened in the time it took me to get whatever I was getting. She saw fit to lecture you, well, I donno, some people live for that stuff. Look on the bright side, it's a social pressure to do the right thing, and nosy busy-bodies like her occasionally catch someone doing something stupid. And gives them a good lecture. If she didn't call anyone out on you, that is. Nowadays, I think everyone knows that, unless you know for a fact that the child is going to be hurt bad...don't even mess with CFPS...cause it's a crapshoot. I couldn't ever leave my kids in the car. I'm sure I did, when I just didn't have enough hands and too many babies. I vaguely recall nighmarish trips to the grocery store. The memories are mostly blocked, but sometimes there's a flashback. And I think...thank god for drive-thru

Well, honestly? Never leave the littles unattended in a car. I saw a demonstration once on how long it takes someone to snatch a baby - car seat and all - from a car. It's a matter of seconds. Yes, it's a pain to haul the baby out and go in the store for just a minute or two but it's worth it. You're not a bad parent. It's just something most people don't think about. That said, I hope she wasn't being nasty and hateful about it. There wasn't a need for that. People are overly sensitive - and probably for good reason - because every summer there are stories of children being left in cars and dying from the heat. That wasn't the case with you but the woman couldn't know that. Look at it this way...her over alertness to things like this could conceivably save another child some day.

Sorry Rickster, I gotta go with Ms. Maylily on this. I will say that 17 years ago, I did leave #1 in the car unattended a time or two, and like you, kept an eye on him etc. But the fact is, you gotta unload the booger and take him with. Things happen too fast. This lady was concerned, but in the time it took for you to look at the cashier, she coulda had him and left. That doesn't make you bad - hell, you are putting that very personal information out there and you are asking the question. Now if you said you went in to have a beer...... ;D On that same note, my bro and SIL just had twins. Bro took Baby Girl A to the car, strapped her in, and went in to get Baby Girl B. Somehow - no one knows how, the car started rolling backwards. It could have been horrendous, but he did get out there in time to stop it from rolling too far. Was he bad? No, just wasn't thinking negatively enough. Needless to say....he didn't get much sleep that night on the couch.
