I wouldn't presume to speak for Kender, but I don't think they really have much impact. Humans have acted violently towards each other since we've existed. And that is true whether one believes the Biblical or secular version of history
What was the excuse for violence 20 years ago? 50? 100? 1000?
I think our society wants to blame someone for the random acts of violence that are carried out several times each day. No parent wants to believe that they've raised a socially unacceptable child. No one wants to blame themselves first.
It's always someone else's fault that we did what we did or that they did what they did. It's never our fault.
If video games are now the reasons behind the violence, what about the millions of people (myself included) who play violent video games and don't go on to commit violent acts? There has to be an answer doesn't there?
There is no science behind naming video games the culprit behind our continuing cycle of violence. If one believes that (A) people are inherently non-violent and (B) that playing violent video games causes a change in the brain functions that rule violence, then one must be able to show that all (or at least a very high percentage) of people that play violent video games undergo this brain change. If one does not believe (or cannot prove) both A and B, then video games and their manufacturers must be absolved of responsibility.
Personal responsibility, what a concept.

I really do totally agree with you snootch. Truthfully, I was just trying to get some action going here since Rick had been cybermissing. That said, some of the games are really way too violent for me but if kender or anyone else likes them I really don't care. I also agree that parents need to monitor what their kids are doing but I want strict guidelines about sales of mature games. I guess they monitor...I don't really know. One thing I'm not sure about....do you think that criminals in prison should be allowed to play violent games like grand theft auto or games where they routinely kill police and others. Obviously I think they need the entertainment, but I'm not sure if they should be allowed to cyberkill for entertainment. Maybe they should be limited to super mario brothers. What do you think about that?
