Strange I thought kids usually voted like their parent? It won't take much to make me suspicious...already suspicious of the gay vote

OMG. My son thought I was voting for Bush. AAARRRRGGGHHH. But we clarified that. Anyway, somewhere at school he was inundated with political stuff and came away thinking that no one should vote for Kerry because he was for abortion and against the military. DID I SAY ARGH? He is only 13, so we have time. LOL.
In seriousness, I will let him make his own decisions. But I am a little curious as to how he came away with that, considering I feel most education folks lean more to the dems. I am wondering if perhaps his teachers lean more toward "moral" issues than economic/social. I don't know. It was just really really weird.

Like watching your children become indoctrinated. I've held to the same philosophy you have May. I share my view, but I allow them their view. On some things, I have no middle ground. The "N" word I hate, and I won't have it in my house. Putting down gay people isn't allowed. Same reason basically; it's hateful and it's a way to look at a human being as less than a human being. Oh, and women's rights, just basically that we're human beings too. With a momma that wore combat boots, I can hardly teach them anything else. But politics and the more involved current issues, I think it takes a little longer, and I think kids swing back and forth a little bit. I didn't even touch the topic of the kids vote. I don't know what to say. To me, the results were so unexpected, it might have well have been voting tampering. I haven't investigated it anymore than that website. I'm not ready, I think, to know if there's anything to that, or not. Well, at least the tarot cards gave me a heads up. I didn't read the whole thing; it started the covering card was The Tower and the crossing card was The Devil. I figured that was enough of a reading. Never did do that second reading.

It sounds like a good reason for parents to talk to their kids - about faith, about politics, about morals, about values...etc...to make sure that their childeren are being raised with the morals/values etc. that they want them to be raised with.
Sounds like an opportunity to teach him critical thinking. "Ok, that's what these people say...but obviously other people have a different opinion, because he did get nominated...and you don't get nominated without votes...meaning a lot of people believe in this guy...so...maybe I should find out why they think he's so great..."

The 11 yr old was so sad. I did my best to convince her that it would be ok. Hope I wasn't lying. I think the fact that she went to the Kerry rally and waved her sign for him made the loss more personal. Poor thing.
