A NOTE ON THE O'REILLY FACTOR: Getting Michael booked on this show is good news, because this is the No. 1-rated political talk show on cable TV. Unfortunately, O'Reilly has a history of being hostile to the Libertarian message. Michael has worked hard to prepare himself for this interview, and has even come to Washington, DC, to undergo several media training seminars. We've seen his performance improve dramatically.
Nonetheless, until you're sitting there under the lights being grilled by Bill O'Reilly, it's hard to understand what it's like to face questions like: "Let's face it; you Libertarians think America would be a *better place* if everyone laid around and did drugs all day!" (Yes, this is the accusation that O'Reilly leveled against our former political director, Ron Crickenberger the last time he did the show.
Then he bullied and filibustered Ron, and refused to let him explain our true position. O'Reilly behaved the same way the majority of times that he's invited Libertarians onto the show.
National office staffers who have done the show say that on a hostility scale of 1 to 10, O'Reilly is clearly an 11. Michael will face no interview more challenging than this.
He has bravely stepped up to the plate, and he's going to do his level best on this show.
