Anyone else watch the Penn & Teller episode debunking the war on drugs? They did an excellent job. Interviewing not only drug-legalization advocates, but also a former member of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (whose name was Wiener, by the way, no shit) and the least drug-tolerant sheriff in the United States.
It basically boiled to down to what many of us have known for ages. That the War on Drugs is FUCKING BULLSHIT.
Marijuana was proven to not be the gateway drug it's advertised to be. Actually, tobacco and alcohol are the real 'gateway' drugs. Nearly 100% of all humans who have ever tried cocaine or heroin smoked cigarrettes and drank alcohol before they ever did any illegal drugs.
Mr. Wiener, from the Drug Czar's office, indicated one would never find a 'real' doctor who would prescribe marijuana or advocate it's health benefits. It took Penn & Teller just minutes to find the Professor of Psychology emeritus, Harvard University, whose own son was helped through the last year and a half of suffering from Lymphoma by marijuana.
Also interviewed was one of 7 Federal Medical Marijuana patients. That's right, there are 7 people in the United States who are completely exempt from the War on Drugs and actually have their weed supplied to them by the feds.
So, what was the federal marijuana patient like? Jerry Garcia look-a-like? No. Irrational and dangerous? No. Actually, he is a successful stockbroker. He gets stoned on his way to work and still manages to be successful in one of the most highly competitive industries on the planet.
Oh, and the next time you see a History Channel documentary on Pablo Escobar talking about all the lives he was responsible for taking and all the vile shit he did (and he did a lot), just remember that without the War on Drugs, he would've probably been a $0.50/day FUCKING MIGRANT WORKER

Worse than you thought, worse than I thought anyway, and more history involved with it's current situation than I had any idea. We're talking really evil bastards involved from the very beginning, and there still are. Like Rush. Did you know he's gay too? And his sister is? At least, that's some stuff K ran into yesterday. Makes perfect sense to me. Evil hypocrites. Unevolved humans. His former lover still likes him though said he's a really nice guy.

Attempting to claim that cigaretts cause drug addicts is just plain bullshit. I smoked for over 40 years yet never even attempted to take illegal drugs or smoke pot. -- and it never even occurred to me to try it.

When will a legitimate presidential canidate have the balls to legalize marijuana? My guess is not in my lifetime...unless I do it maybe. Ciggarettes are most certainly a gateway. They are the most easily accessable to youths.

To be honest, I find the entire idea of a "Gateway drug" to be utter bullshit.
Welcome aboard, you two! Stick around!

To be honest, I find the entire idea of a "Gateway drug" to be utter bullshit. - Rick Yeah, it is. The notion that someone smoked pot before they did heroin, thus making it a "gateway" is as nutty as the notion that shoplifting is a gateway to armed robbery, or masturbation is a gateway to rape.

Yeah, it is. The notion that someone smoked pot before they did heroin, thus making it a "gateway" is as nutty as the notion that shoplifting is a gateway to armed robbery, or masturbation is a gateway to rape. Yeah, you'd think the fact that 95% of marijuana users don't ever try heroin or cocaine would be enough to dispel that myth, but they just keep plugging away at purposefully blind statistics, without a causal link or anything. - Rick

It's like what my husband says: If you ignore the obvious, you can get away with anything. Deny, deny, deny. It's a political lie that's gone on for generations. But, in the end, it's all about the money, not about the prisoners or the sick. I swear, we need the mafia back. At least then someone with a vested interest in the community was running the show. It's weird, but I kind of agree with you about that mafia comment. In South America, the cartel kingpins, though certainly guilty of heinous crimes against humanity, actually promote the local communities and take better care of the local citizens than their governments ever have.
