My greatest President would be Washington. He may be one of the only truly great Presidents in history. He turned down the position of monarch after the Revolutionary War and helped bring the philosophy behind our government into practice.
One of the things I'm unhappy with about the Presidency is the two-term limit. I think it hurts our country more than helps it. There's really no incentive for a President to be truly great as there is no possibility of retaining the job longer than 8 years. As long as the electoral system (not the electoral college, which I oppose) is not compromised, a candidate should be able to be elected by the people as many times as they want to elect him. Our Presidents must forego solid, long-term solutions to our problems in favor of borrow and spend programs that show short-term benefits in order to get elected for that second and final term. Is it really any secret that most Presidents take those last 4 years easy, secure in the knowledge that no matter how good a job they do, they are effectively going to be fired at the end of their 8th year?
