I couldn't agree more. Especially when you consider the following:
There were 19,358 Alcohol-induced deaths in the United States each year, not including motor vehicle fatalities (2000)
There were 26,552 deaths in the United States from Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis (2000)
There were 21,683 Deaths From Drug-Induced Causes in 2001 (legal and illegal drugs) (2001)
Number of deaths attributable to smoking was not given. Alcohol by itself, therefore kills more people each year than all drugs legal and illegal combined.
Death by drug use does not even crack the top 15 leading causes of death in the US. It's also interesting to note that while the government is content to mention Afghanistan as a premier heroin-producing nation and terrorist haven, most of the heroin consumed in the U.S. actually comes from Mexico, which is not, last time I checked, a target of any kind in the drug war. But this is what happens when hypocrites and liars are entrusted with too much power and money.
