They should not only legalize medical marijuana, but recreational marijuana as well.
It's not addictive, doesn't seem to pose as fierce a health risk as tobacco (fewer smokes per day by a regular user would seem to indicate lower likelihood of cancer/emphysema, although I'd have to look it up), and in many states it's already the number one cash crop.
Want to erase deficits? Let's start with creating a new income source: legal and taxable marijuana.
The downside, of course, is that the quality of legalized marijuana would likely be poor. Instead of sharing 1 bowl between a couple of people and getting a nice buzz, they'd manipulate crops to reduce the THC, and you'd need to smoke 2 or 3 to get the same effect....

I agree, but I don't think potency would be hurt. There'd probably, like cigarettes and alcohol, be differing potencies. I believe Virginia Slims were originally going to be 'good' smokes back when legalization looked likely to happen in the near future. The prohibition is basically based on the fact that Mexican migrant workers and black jazz musicians smoked it and the general feeling that anything done by Mexicans and blacks couldn't possibly be good.
The joke about the issue, though, is that Congress enacted a tax on marijuana, making it illegal to possess or distribute marijuana without a tax stamp. The punchline is that they never even made the tax stamp, effectively prohibiting the substance without all the outcry that surrounded prohibition of alcohol.
Sneaky rat bastards ;D

I support any and all marijuana for any and all reasons. And what a bunch of shit that the war on drugs means a war on hemp as a resource too.
