It really annoys me when I post my opinion about something, and a person's only response is to tell me how stupid, crazy, or irrellevant the libertarian point-of-view is.
I also hate when a person posts a link to an opinion piece, and, instead of debating the issue, people just dismiss it because of where it comes from. This one tends to bridge all ideological groups.
Grr...

Before you write, consider the audience. If the audience is likely to give those kind of responses...don't waste your time.

People have been pissing me off by attacking me, my friends and my country. I've been in no mood to be polite about my displeasure.

Wow, what a remarkably narrow interpretation of "Render unto Caesar...." - Rick No kidding. That's not how I was taught either. I was taught more along the lines of critical thinking - questioning whether the government was doing something right or wrong etc.

Well all I can say is thank goodness there's a person like you to try to talk some sense May. DAMN, this poster sincerely wants religious law. I bet he'd be up for stoning for adultry too. Just a small step, just a matter of time.
I think my life is better spent staying away from politics, in some ways. It's just too crazy one, so much of what we took for granted is being stolen, and lies are all we're hearing. So yeah, I'm making an effort to not care. Apathy is my friend? Well, there seems to be little point in caring, honestly, insert many rant phrases here...I can't see any way to turn around from what our nation has become. Now, it's just a question of trying to live a decent life. As far away from the crazy fuckers as I can.
I don't care about their fucking yards. They use poisons and work so hard to push out "pests" that home life becomes sterile, chemically unsafe and useless.
I don't care about their fucking cars. Though that is sometimes all they seem to care about.
I don't care about the fucking tv. Most of the programs are shit, and the news is a joke. Reality tv sucks brain cells, and comercials work to "persuade" us to buy their products and live their livestyles. I don't want internet in my car, I don't need a new car, I don't feel like waxing...anything, and shut up with the loud volume.
I don't care about their fucking kids. These kids are psychotic. For the forth, their fun time was to drop firecrackers into the cage of a younger boys turtle. Turtle torture. Nice, eh? No, after the asshole next door told Ryan he was going to run him over with his car, I realized I do not care about the kids in this fucking neighborhood. I see them in uniform in a few years, blowing up bigger and better things, and no one will tell them it's wrong. Fuck them.
I don't care about all these fools walking about like everything is fine, when in fact, I can't think of much that really is, in all actuality, "fine". Things are not fine. Indications on all fronts are dire, with the exception of the interest of big money. We will NOT be happy next year. We'll be even less happy the year after that. Unless aliens drop out of the sky with amazing technologies for free, we're screwed.
and people want to talk about their moral, "christian" (I differentiate between those that say they are, and those that really try to be) issues with homosexuality. Sure. Fuck it.

I also hate when a person posts a link to an opinion piece, and, instead of debating the issue, people just dismiss it because of where it comes from. This one tends to bridge all ideological groups. Grr... - Rick Annoys me too Rick. When you get on there, your points are solid, and you do a great job on confronting the points they bring up, over these radical ideas of 'freedom'. I hated watching the stupidity, rudeness and basically apathy over freedom, especially directed to someone sincerely sharing info and discussing the issues. Waste of time, insulting waste of your intelligence. And they love targetting the source. I remember many times I actually agreed with RedStar and some point he'd bring up.They ridiculed him as the source anytime I tried to discuss a point with him. No matter how serious and meaningful it might have been (arguments against the Iraq war, not much more serious than that) are dismissed with a flippant comment and a "so what, you can't prove it, it's just a rumor" attitude. As if our job as Americans wasn't to make sure rumors aren't true. As if the stories about torture from the very beginning shouldn't have given us all a cold chill. They're so damned sure they're right. Forgetting, always forgetting, the consequences of WHAT IF WE'RE WRONG. That's what I see a lot that bothers me, probably more than their attitude bothers you. They don't stop to think and consider what it means if they're wrong, as if loss of life or ruined lives are no big deal. As if consideration of consequences is too silly or something. I can't stand it when I try to discuss an issue based on the gravity of it, on the extreme potential for harm if we're wrong, and I get blown off. Told there is no proof. And then forget any idea of determing a pattern to the lies and misdirection. Like the war. Or homosexuality. The Christians speaking against it, speaking against the lives of so many, do they ever stop to consider what it really means if they're wrong? What did they do?? What did they do to SO many lives, just because they're so sure their religious faith is the "correct" one. What did they do to so many, with their cruel words and decision that sexuality is some kind of "choice". They believe they are right, and it seems that faith in believing your right is where the problems start. They just don't stop to think of what the hell it means if they're wrong. Sometimes, the damage from being wrong turns out to far outweigh any benefits of being right. Like the drug war; it would be nice to not have anyone addicted to drugs that doesn't have to be. But what has the drug war done? Hasn't decreased drug use one bit, but has given us the most prisoners anywhere, ever, by any measure. Give up on them Rick. They aren't worth it. Anyone on there that follows you, likely they're already with the program, already enlightened. Preaching to the choir. At this point, anyone that doesn't percieve problems with our government and justice system, they either aren't paying attention or they don't care. It's just a show, like a cat playing with it's food. They don't care. And, they've won. I think we need to lose gracefully. Table libertarian ideas for a few hundred years; we are serfs.
