Yeah, no one ever shows the equally graphic accounts of what a back alley abortion looks like. Right to Life only means for the fetus. People talk about "back alley abortions" as though they happened all the time pre-Row vs. Wade, but in fact the instance of that was miniscule, and the number of deaths actually attributed to botched back alley abortions numbers less than a dozen. As to "Right to Life only means for the fetus", since they're the target of the abortion, it seems logical to focus on the victim. |

Those pitiful, cretinous, underbrained, flaccid, drooling, inbred pricks on STLouis have nothing better to do than post the most obcenely graphic abortion pics??? How is shock value going to stop educated people from voting prochoice, anyway? We know that abortions happen for many reasons, not all of them "convenience"... Those pics of fetuses could have been from medically necessary abortions or miscarriages for all anyone knows. Damn those reeking, fungus infected assholes, that was just fucking stupid. I watched my sister in law miscarry on her bathroom floor while waiting for an ambulance, it looked exactly like those photos. She wanted that baby with all her heart and lost him, at 22 weeks. It looked the same. I think I can provide insight on this. As you know, the argument hinges on the premise that is accepted. Pro-choicers use the premise that the unborn child is not human, that is it is not a person, that it is just tissue to be removed...like removing your appendix. Pro-lifers insist that life begins at conception, and that abortion is not the same as removing an appendix. An innocent child is killed. One of the difficulties in convincing people of this is that by benefit of being unborn, the child is unseen. When you don't see someone, it is much easier to deny their humanity. When you deny someone's humanity, it is much easier to harm or kill them. This was demonstrated by the famous experiments conducted by Stanley Milgrims on obedience. I can understand why those pictures are disturbing to you, especially considering the experience you described with your sister. The point the pictures are meant to make, however, does not rely on whether or not the children pictured are the result of an abortion or a miscarriage. The point is to make the invisible - visible. The point is to show the humanity of the unborn, because as long as the unborn remains invisible, "fetus" is just a word, a word with as much moral significance as the words appendix, pancreas, and liver. |

However, I think Emily has a poor understanding of pro-life. Pro life - true pro-life means from womb to tomb. Nobody wants the woman to die. That's why they always throw in the "unless the life of the mother is in danger" exception. Both the mother and the child have a right to life. It is also why the Catholic Church says that while it is wrong to intentionally kill the unborn child, if a procedure intended to save the mother happens to kill the child, it is a tragedy, but it is not a sin. As it stands, the right of the mother to life is recognized, but the child's right to life is disregarded. Therefore it is logical to take up the cause of the victim, especially when the victim is so defenseless. |
